The Northern Powerhouse Partnership
About
The Northern Powerhouse Partnership (NPP) brings together business and civic leaders to champion economic growth across the North of England. We work to influence national policy, support regional leadership and push for long-term investment that unlocks the North’s full potential. Founded in 2016, NPP is now chaired by Baroness Julie Elliott, with George Osborne and Lord Jim O’Neill serving as Co-Presidents reflecting the organisation’s deep roots in both government and economics. The Northern Powerhouse vision focused on one central idea: by closely connecting the great cities of the North, we could create a whole greater than the sum of our parts. An interconnected network of thriving economic hubs stretching the breadth of the Pennines would allow people to access better-paid, higher-skilled jobs while attracting global businesses looking to draw on a talent pool of millions. Our work focuses on three core priorities that are critical for unlocking economic growth and driving up productivity across the North: connectivity, devolution and education. Each is vital to ensuring the North becomes as prosperous and productive as the South. Our membership is made up of many of the North’s leading businesses, spanning sectors including energy, construction, technology, infrastructure and financial services.
